The so-called “anti-greenwashing” regulation, i.e. the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive and the application of its national provisions, will come into force in September 2026. This will require all companies engaged directly or indirectly in consumer trade to review their communication.

How Can I Help to Adapt?

The changes to consumer protection legislation will leave even less room for vague “green” impressions and will increase the requirements for precision and verifiability in communication. At the same time, many currently common communication practices, expressions, and visual elements will become prohibited.

It is advisable to act early and assess:

  • What are your company’s key sustainability claims?
  • Are they sufficiently precise?
  • How can they be verified?
  • What documentation may be missing, and how can it be obtained?
  • What is communicated about repairability and how, before the purchase decision across all sales channels?

I can help your company to:

  • assess your communication content and identify required changes
  • create a plan for implementing those changes
  • develop an updated narrative and rephrase areas that need revision
  • produce ready-to-use content in line with the plan
  • train your communication and sales teams in applying the new practices

What Is New?

What is going to be prohibited and what is going to be mandatory?
